WASH/IPC

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene / Infection Prevention and Control

About WASH

At ACHAP, we believe access to safe water, proper sanitation, and good hygiene are fundamental human rights. We are committed to improving the lives of communities worldwide by providing sustainable solutions for water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).

About IPC

At ACHAP, we prioritize Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) as a practical, evidence-based approach to preventing patients and health workers from being harmed by avoidable infections. Effective IPC requires constant action at all levels of the health system, including policymakers, facility managers, health workers, and those who access health services. We strengthen the capacity of CHAs in WASH programs to provide rapid, needs-based support focused on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) and IPC readiness in high-volume facilities delivering reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health services by using existing operational platforms.

Water

ACHAP works with member Christian Health Associations in Africa to improve and ensure communities and Healthcare facilities have access to clean and safe water sources. We support the CHAs in designing and implementing projects that ensure the quality and safety of water in the communities and primary healthcare facilities. By providing sustainable water sources, we help reduce waterborne diseases and improve overall health.

Sanitation

ACHAP works in close collaboration with Christian Health Associations in Africa to promote the construction of proper sanitation facilities, such as toilets and latrines, to improve hygiene and prevent the contamination of water sources. The member CHA projects focus on building infrastructure that is culturally appropriate, environmentally friendly, sustainable, and easy to maintain.

Hygiene

ACHAP works together with Christian Health Associations to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and capacity to educate communities and healthcare facility staff about the importance of good hygiene practices, including handwashing, personal hygiene, and menstrual hygiene management. Through workshops, awareness campaigns, and the distribution of hygiene kits, we empower members with the knowledge and tools to lead healthier lives.
